JWildfire Fractal Rendering
JWildfire is one of the most capable and easy-to-use programs that is freely available. The “J” stands for Java. JWildfire programs require a Java Runtime Environment (JRE, not to be confused with JavaScript) which allows them to run on many OS platforms. Sterling2 is a freeware version released in 2008 by Tad Boniecki and available at soler7.com/Fractals/Sterling2.html. The Sterling programs display mathematical formulae in their menus, but the emphasis is on shading and color filters. The resulting images feature a striking richness of tone.
